It’s the first Friday of 2014! Yay! Which also means I’m back hanging out with the lovely folks over at Lisa-Jo’s place for Five Minute Friday. What is Five Minute Friday? It’s a group of writers who write for 5 minutes on a given prompt. No editing, no overthinking… just writing. There are days this is my kind of writing.

So this week’s prompt is… Fight.

It’s that time of year to be making goals, reevaluating our life’s direction. We do it every year, don’t we? How many of our goals change and how many remain the same year after year? Why do we have to keep setting the same goals, and what keeps us from changing?

Our battle with the flesh.

We have this sin-nature that we’re born with that causes us to keep going against our pursuit of the holy. The enemy works against all the things that God wants us to be and do.

We’re tempted to look back too much.

Sometimes we get really retrospective. It’s good to look back, but it’s also good to look forward. Where does God want us and how does he want us to align our hearts with his in the next year?

I battle with this, too. It’s a daily struggle to hold my goals loosely. My days usually start with expectations. But with in an hour those expectations get dashed, and I’m fighting to succeed. What did God want from me today? Today it was a battle to accomplish anything in the morning. But I just breath in and ask God to help me fight.

…And I’m done. Now it’s your turn! Will you join me in linking up for Five Minute Friday today?

“We’re tempted to look back too much”… isn’t that the truth… the hard truth. Why do we do that? Do we think we can change things, or even better, rationalize past happenings into something that doesn’t make us cringe. Love this post the encouragement to keep moving forward and let God move with us.

Hmm… yes. I think we quite often do think that we can change things! One good thing that can come from looking back is making those changes in the future. :)

      Thanks for stopping by Kara!
