Ceilidhs and kilts.  Leon and I went to Edinburgh for the weekend, where he took me to a ceilidh.  The ceilidh was a wonderful way to experience Scottish culture.  There were at least 200 people in this room for the dance.   Typically, throughout the night, the dance was set up so that the band organized everyone into a circle to teach the various steps to these dances.  And then we danced to our heart’s content to ceilidh music, which could be described as Scottish highland style music if  you haven’t heard it before.  Several of the dances were done strictly with one partner.  Some were done as a mixer, and some were done as a small group of 4-8 dancers (kind of like a country square dance here in the US–only way better!).  I couldn’t believe how many people showed up, and I don’t think I have ever seen so many kilts in my life–then again, we were in Scotland!  Apparently there is a ceilidh club there in Edinburgh.

I’d tell you what some of my favorite dances were, but I can’t really remember what they are called now.   I did get to waltz again, and I learned the polka as well.  It was so nice to have a dance partner all night though!  And what did I do to get a boyfriend who enjoys dancing?? :)

P.S.  Please remember to look down below recent entries to see if there are any updates.  I’m dating these more or less as they happen!
