“Dear Diary…”

My current journal

I love keeping journals. I’ve kept one since I was a teenager. In them I’ve recorded lots of things… from annoyances, to concerns, prayers, teenage angst (when I was younger), everyday goings-on.

It’s a part of who I am, and it helps me to process things as I sit down and write an entry in my journal.

In choosing a journal, it has to be a pretty book. I’ve even made some of my own journal covers because I felt inspired. I used to prefer journals with lined pages, but recently I’ve discovered I like blank pages. There’s just something about being free to do whatever I want on a page that doesn’t have lines (the lines tell me what to do).

Since moving to England, I’ve tried to write in my journal daily, even if it’s only a few sentences.

Recently I’ve gained some inspiration for things I can do with my journal. I might try some of these things. It would be different from what I’ve “always done” as I’ve kept my journals over the years. From the link I included, I especially like the idea of the hand-drawn calendar to track events in my journal. I think it will be helpful as I look back in a few years to know what else was going on in my life as I was writing.

Do you keep a journal? What do you use it for?
