What is the first thing you do in the morning? OK, aside from moaning, “Oh, it’s time to get up already?” What do you do?

As I’ve grown personally and in my walk with the Lord, I have discovered how important it is to meet with the Lord first thing in the morning. I talked briefly about this last week, but want to give more detail.

No idea who to credit for this photo, but you can find it here

It sets the tone for the entire day when I meet with the Lord when I wake in the morning (especially now that I’m married and have a baby). It allows the Lord to work in my heart before life happens and I explode on my son or my husband. OK, I still do that sometimes even when I do have a quiet time first… I’m not perfect. :)

Your quiet time doesn’t have to be an hour long. That’s right, they can last 10 to 15 minute every day. With a young baby, that’s all I can get in most days. You can find other times of the day to meditate and pray, too. For example, today I ended up having to cuddle my son to sleep (something that doesn’t happen very often in our home) so I spent that time praying and thinking. You could find downtimes like that to work on Scripture memory, too.

Another idea I like but haven’t tried yet is something I found on a blog I follow. Seriously, I love this lady’s heart for the Lord. You should check out her blog… Anyway, I digress. She has a friend who sets an alarm on her phone to remind her to pray throughout the day. Sounds like a great way to stay in God throughout the day.

Of course, there are those times when you simply can’t get a quiet time in, and that’s life. There’s no hard fast rule, and having a quiet time isn’t a legalistic thing. There is abundant grace from God even on those days when you can’t meet with Him! Hmm… those days are often when I need His grace most!

Now it’s your turn to share. How do you find time to meet with the Lord every day?
